It's made using a technique called reticulation. Sterling silver is made up of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. The copper is added to strengthen the metal.
After I created the silver disc, I have heated, cooled and cleaned the silver a minimum of 15 times. Each time the silver is taken almost to melting point. This repeated heating removes the copper content, you are finally left with a layer of pure silver, 99.9% on the surface. The flame is then used to create ripples and patterns in the silver. No two pieces will ever be the same.
The pendant is approximately 20mmin diameter.
The chain is 17".
Other chain lengths are available on request.
As with a lot of my work, this can be made to order in different sizes.
All my jewellery is solid silver and I am registered at the Birmingham Assay Office.
Silver items weighing less than 7.78g do not legally require hallmarking.
